A tooth extraction is the complete removal of a tooth from its socket. An extraction may be required if extensive tooth decay, infection, or trauma results in a tooth that cannot be restored with other dental treatments.
Types of Tooth Extractions
There two main types of tooth extractions that may be recommended:
- Simple extractions – the tooth is removed in one piece
- Surgical extractions – the tooth is sectioned and removed in pieces, often requiring the removal of a small amount of bone around the tooth.
